IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCES
The Glinščica Valley is a hidden gem in the close vicinity of Trieste, where a massive mass of limestone rock breaks into a crack and dislodges impermeable sandstones, flysch and clay. That is why the springs that we look for in the arid Karst in vain come to the surface. They merge into the Glinščica stream, which over the centuries fed the town at its outlet and “co-created” its salt works..
Along the stream, there was a lively trade route, because in Targeste (as an ancient appellation of Trieste was) there were even two salt works, but at the same time a port where ships imported goods from distant exotic lands. Donkeys, mules and horses took them on their shoulders and loaded them inland, while wine, fruit and other agricultural products were carried in the opposite direction. Even Martin Krpan knew well where Trieste was! During the hike, you will learn about the wealth of historical, geological, meteorological and botanical information about this area, which rises right above Trieste with steep walls, in which mountaineers find their challenge, and many paths and trails attract hikers as well..
As usual, our starting point will be the Sežana railway station, to which the train will take those who decide to take this slightly slower, but nature- and pocket-friendly form of transport to the starting point of the trip. From there we will continue our journey with vans.

Tour description:
The starting point of the hike, which we reach by van from Sežana, is next to the viewpoint in the village of Jezero. We will follow the walking path above the walls to the highest point of our hike under the top of the hill Stena at an altitude of 433 meters above sea level, from which we will descend to the village of Draga.
There we pick up the hiking-biking trail created on the route of the abandoned narrow-gauge railway between Kozina and Trieste, which we follow past some of the most beautiful viewpoints, and then descend to the village of Botač – a former small border crossing between Italy and Slovenia.
There we cross the Glinščica riverbed and continue along the stream. We soon arrive at the Supet waterfall, which falls over a rocky overhang into an emerald green pool. Not far away, on a rock above the path, is the ancient church of St. Mary “v Pečah”, one of the oldest churches in the area. Before we reach the paved roads in the Gorenji konec of the village of Boljunec, we come across the exceptionally well-preserved remains of the Roman aqueduct, which supplied Trieste with water until the seventeenth century. In between, the way down the Glinščica Stream delights us with a few more waterfalls.
At the Gorenji konec ot the village Boljunec, our path again turns upvards. Before the end of the hike we come across Muhov Castle, a fortress that protected travelers for many centuries. Since the ravages of time have gnawed it all “down to the bone”, it is now replaced by a beautiful vantage point. Not far away, we end our hike and drive back to our starting point in Sežana.

In addition to the in the university obtained areas of architecture and art, she is also keenly interested in ethnology, geography and history with an emphasis on everything related to the local tradition, especially some less known areas, such as the indigenous religion and the people who followed it. She also researches many “borderline” skills, such as dowsing or geomancy. It is a convinced environmentalist and an opponent of violence and wars in general.
