IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCES

Join us in exploring the picturesque natural spas that Tuscany offers unspoiled in its natural environment.

Warm or sometimes even hot water melts the rock massifs while overflowing them, and, at the same time, shapes them into picturesque structures of cascades and hollows that offer comfortable shelter to bathers.

By cycling, we will enjoy wide views of the picturesque landscape of gently undulating hills, so often highlighted on the ridges by tree-lined avenues of typical cypress trees and traditional homestead buildings with bricks ornaments. The evenings we will spend in the homely atmosphere of tourist farms, accompanied by typical Tuscan cuisine, with wines from local cellars, olive oils and other delicacies produced by our hosts.

DAY 3:

Highlights:

  • Vignoni and San Filippo spas

On the third day, double spas await us. At the beginning of our trip we will cycle only a few kilometers along the typical Tuscan “strada bianca”, which is usually a well ridable gravel road. In the first spa, in Vignoni, hot water was caught in the pool, which once “soaked” quite a few famous names, but today it is only on display. The healing thermal water with 52 degrees at the source spills down the slope also behind the settlement, running to the “Mill Park“, where there is a corner for “free tasting”, too. The second natural spas will be waiting for us not many kilometers away, in the village of San Filippo. Here, a real wealth of healing thermal water spills over the beautiful white cascades.

DAY 4:

Archaeological sites of Etruscan tuff settlements

Highlights:

  • archeological sites of tuff settlements, the towns of Sovana and Sorano

We will keep our swimsuits dry on the fourth day, too, as we will be crossing to the most famous and the largest natural spa, Saturnia. Although, we will cycle through otherwise interesting areas, where the ancient inhabitants carved their settlements directly into the soft local stone tuff. They carved out their streets and homes, as well as watercourses did, and created both pleasant shady gorges. When the dangers of attacks by tribes ceased, they used the same rock to carve the bricks of their masonry dwellings and created villages and towns perfectly in tune with the colors of the surroundings, such as the picturesque Sorano and Sovana are. By the end of the day, we will accommodate only few steps away from Saturnia Spa.

DAY 5:

Magic Saturnia

Highlights:

  • Saturnia spa, Etruscan archeological remains

In the morning, we will be descending to the bathing area passing by the most beautiful vantage point and enjoy the picturesque view of the famous mill “soaked” in the warm water. On the way to reach the mill, warm water flows along the creek bed, so the bathers, eager for healing water, are “appearing” from all the bushes near it. When we will get tired of the sweetness of the thermal water with a temperature of 37 degrees, we will continue towards Lake Bolsena. On the way, we will pass by some more archeological sites testifying the Etruscan culture.

DAY 6:

To Viterbo and Lake Bolsena

Highlights:

  • hot thermal springs near Viterbo, Lake Bolsena

On the penultimate day, we will pamper ourselves in three natural thermal pools, all of them not far from the town of Viterbo. Here, the healing water at the spring reaches a temperature of 56 degrees even and must be cooled for use. In the afternoon, we will cycle to the  Bolsena, where we will spend the night in a tourist pharm by the lake.

DAY 7:

From Lake Bolsena to starting point

Highlights:

  • the picturesque medieval village of La Civita

On the last day, we will give up the bike and leave back to Ljubljana with the vans already loaded. Not far away from lake, we will make a short stop to visit the extremely picturesque village of La Civita, raised on a high rock of a tuff above the surrounding hills. It used to be a very safe shelter for its inhabitants, but today it is just a picturesque artifact, with its amazing views and landscape like the moon attracting thousands of tourists.

Mountainous terrain, very demanding ascents and descents on single tracks, tows or otherwise demanding trails that require a high level of fitness and technical skills
EASY: Relaxed cycling, suitable for beginners and families who want cycling experiences. There is a lot of time and opportunities on the way to stop and relax, and the terrain is undemanding in terms of altitude – mostly flat or with gentle slopes. The road surfaces are also undemanding – asphalt or well-paved and smooth gravel. As a rule, the lengths of daily sections do not exceed 35 kilometers.
MEDIUM EASY: Suitable for cyclists with an active lifestyle who cycle regularly. The cycling sections are longer and more demanding in terms of fitness. Medium-demanding terrain can also contain longer and steeper ascents and descents. The lengths of daily sections of mostly road-cycling tours are on average between 45 and 75 kilometers, and touring-cycling tours more than 30 kilometers.
MEDIUM DEMANDING: Suitable for occasional cyclists – mostly undemanding cycling, but some days can also contain longer easy ascents or descents or shorter ascents that are more demanding or descents. The lengths of the daily sections are on average between 25 and 55 kilometers per day.
DEMANDING: Suitable for very active and well-prepared cyclists who want cycling challenges that are more demanding. Medium to very demanding terrains can also contain longer and steeper ascents and descents. The lengths of daily road and cycling sections are on average between 65 and 85 kilometers, while touring cycling sections are correspondingly shorter, but at least more than 40 km.
VERY DEMANDING: The most demanding cycling challenges. Suitable for excellent cyclists with high fitness level for longer cycling tours. These can be either typical road-cycling tours with daily sections longer than 85 kilometers or cycling tours on demanding terrains where the daily sections are shorter, but in any case longer than 50 kilometers and demanding in both height gain and surfaces.
